History Behind the Invention of the Cartoon Tom and Jerry

The shows popularity expanded to several generations and still runs across the world till day. The Tom and Jerry cartoon was introduced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The cartoon was aired on October 27, 1940. The physical appearance of the main leads evolved over the years. At first Tom was a blue-grey longhaired cat while Jerry was a small brown house mouse. The original theme of the series was " A cat chases a mouse". The MGM studio closed the cartoon studios in 1957, after that Hanna and Barbera opened their own television studio Hanna-Barbera Productions. 

Due to the success of their cartoon show, Tom and Jerry has been a household name all around the world. The popu;arity of the show lead to the introduction of many video games, home videos and even merchandise.
